Do I have to connect my apps first?

No. Start with a note and ask Charlie about what you wrote. Connect an app when a task needs information or an action from that service.

What is the difference between Char and Charlie?

Char is the app. Charlie is its assistant’s default name. You can change that name in Settings → Personalization.

How do I ask about a specific note?

Open the page and choose Ask Char. Check the page context in the composer before sending your question.

Does checking off a task make Charlie do it?

A checkbox tracks completion. To ask Charlie to help, start a conversation and describe the work you want done. See Inbox and tasks.

Is everything offline?

No. Desktop notes use local storage, but hosted AI, connected services, and cloud features need network access and can send relevant information outside the device. See Timeline and privacy. The desktop page share control copies an app link. It does not, by itself, publish a public webpage or grant a new person access.

Where did my chat go?

Check the current chat list and Settings → Archived chats. Your personalization settings can archive finished chats. Closing a visible chat and deleting a note are different actions.

Can I use the same data on another device?

Review Settings → Sync and follow the setup shown for your account. Verify a test note on the second device. See Sync and cloud access.

I do not see the control in this guide

Char is in private beta, and the handbook focuses on desktop. Check your app version and use Settings search. If the control is still missing, contact us with the version and platform.
