# Sync and cloud access

> Understand device sync, page links, and access for external agents.

## Sync between devices

Open **Settings → Sync** and review the status shown for your account. Sign in if prompted, then follow the enablement and device-approval steps available there.

When a new device requests access, approve only a device you recognize. If a recovery key is offered, keep it in a safe place and do not post it in a support conversation.

After setup, make a small test note and confirm it appears on the second device before relying on sync for important work. Do not assume every kind of attachment, chat, or local artifact is included; check the actual content you need on both devices.

## Cloud access for external agents

**Cloud access for agents** lets you choose pages that authorized tools such as Codex, Claude, and Cursor can read after you connect your Char account.

1. Open **Privacy & access** in Settings and find **Cloud access for agents**.
2. Search for and select only the pages you want to make available.
3. Save the selection using the action shown in the panel.
4. Check the selected list after saving.

Selected pages are uploaded as readable copies. This is separate from encrypted device sync. Attachments and recordings are not included in these copies. Updates upload from this device while Char is running; authorized agents can read the uploaded copies while Char is closed.

To stop sharing a page this way, remove it from the selected list and save the change.

## Which feature do I need?

| Goal | Feature |
| ----------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------- |
| Work with synced content on another device | Device sync |
| Give an external agent access to selected pages | Cloud access for agents |
| Open an existing page using an app link | The page's share/link control |

A copied app link does not automatically publish a page or grant another person access. Check the recipient's access before depending on it.
